January Skill Share

Megan Peasley was a scientist with a masters of science in Biology from UC San Diego for over 11 years. As a biologist, evidence and education are cornerstones of her doula support. She says "Although birth is biology, it’s also one of the most deeply personal and human experiences of our lives," making it one of the most important experiences to document and hold dear with photographic images.

Shirley says "I do photography and doula work because after working in the Social Work field, I wanted to connect with people and help, but in a different way. I feel I get to help parents in their new journey not just by documenting their stories and debriefing their experiences but also by supporting them through their birth experience and supporting them through the postpartum period."

Headshot mini sessions, and concurrent Afterparty begins!

A lunch order from Eve and Murray's Farm to Home sandwich shop will be coordinated the morning of the Skill Share, paid for individually, and enjoyed together at Illuminated Birth followed by Afterparty desserts (included in the cost of this Skill Share). Mini sessions will run concurrently with Afterparty, beginning at 1pm.

Headshot mini session specifics

Headshot mini sessions will be on a rolling basis beginning at 1pm on January 16, limited to 9 participants. Each session is 15 minutes, using any props you wish to bring along, and will include 5 edited digital images sent to you directly by Shirley Anne.

Finding us

Illuminated Birth is located at 525 Massachusetts Avenue in Acton, MA. Upon arrival, navigate behind the building to locate the parking lot. Illuminated Birth is located on the same level as the lot, one level below the street, next to the steps that take you to Massachusetts Avenue.

Parking is at no cost to participants. Be sure to note any posted restrictions.

A note on cost

Attendance at Symbiotic Skill Shares is considered ongoing education, and receipts are available to submit for business expenses!

The cost of Symbiotic Skill Shares is designed to compensate the facilitators for their knowledge and expertise, along with the considerable time put into their mindful presentations. Additionally, light refreshments are provided at each Skill Share at no additional cost to participants.

The cost of attendance at Symbiotic Skill Shares typically includes three segments, which are not available a la carte. However, this Skill Share includes optional headshots and thus the cost is stratified to allow for a greater number to attend even if not participating in the headshot mini sessions.

Refunds

If called to a birth and you must miss our session, please note:

If notifying Shari McBurney within 4+ hours of workshop start, you will receive 80% credit to a future Skill Share
You can transfer your registration to another participant at no cost to you
No-shows and those not attending with less than 4 hours notice will not be refunded

Cost offset opportunities

A limited amount of collaborative bartering/partial scholarships may be available on basis of need, depending on the sponsor and facilitators. Bartering would include site set-up/break down, homemade baked goods for our refreshment counter, or other contributions.
